In a wacky weather-day, typical of April in Minnesota, the Laker Varsity (2-0) and Jr. Varsity (1-0) emerged victorious against the Minneapolis Roosevelt Teddies at historic Pershing Field.. Both games featured offensive fireworks from the home squad including a walk-off double from Ani Cassellius in the bottom of the 6th inning. The Varsity game got off to a rocky start when the Lakers spotted the Teddies 8 runs. But the Lakers' battled back, eventually tying the game then pushing ahead by one run 9-8 in the 4th. In the bottom of the 6th with the Lakers up 17-8 and two runners in scoring position, the Teddies pulled the infield and outfield inn hoping to cut off the run. Cassellius unloaded a bomb to left centerfield to the base of the fence pushing the final run needed to put the 10-Run rule into play.
Across the field the JV was hard at work and showed off their own offensive might stomping the Teddie's JV Squad 17-5. Assistant Coach Richard Sisson said pitcher Alexis Mather came in relief and pitched to contact, letting her strong defense keep Roosevelt in check. The game was JV Coach Joe B. Fine's first coaching victory as a Southwest Coach. The Southwest B-Quad game was canceled. All three teams head to Bloomington, MN Monday at 2:45 to take on Bloomington Kennedy. Comments are closed.
