Minneapolis Southwest Fastpitch Softball Boosters While the score in the rainy game against Burnsville wasn't what we hoped for, there were some definite highlights!
Rory Harris in center field made an amazing catch, preventing what was likely a home run. Lindsey Bartholomew got help from a couple of errors to steal home in the 1st inning. She also hit a double for an RBI. Several of the Lakers got hits and they made the best of some pitching errors to capitalize on several walks and players reaching base after being hit by the pitch. Megan Smith scored two runs (off a single and a walk.) As is so often the case, it was only one rough inning that made the difference. The Lakers head to their next game against Washburn on Thursday, April 29. This one is for the Doughboy! After missing the first scheduled games due to snowy weather, Southwest started their season against the Minnetonka Skippers on Thursday, April 15th.
JV lost, but came away with some goals for improvement and a good attitude. The Varsity team, lost as well, but can feel really good about the battle. They held them to only 2 runs thanks to solid pitching by Kal Harris. Other notable strengths included some confident pop-fly fielding and catcher Lindsey Bartholomew being an impenetrable wall behind the plate. It was a dramatic game which left multiple Skippers stranded on base and more than a few nail-biting moments with a count of 3-2. Looking forward to the next game on April 20 against St. Paul Central! It is a softball tradition for the captains to design a sweatshirt commemorating each year. The 2021 shirt is now available to order for a limited time. Don't miss out!
This year's shirt is a purple crewneck sweatshirt with white screen printing. $25 for a basic shirt and $30 to have a last name added on the back in white lettering. The captains would like to place the order by 9:00 p.m. on Friday, April 16. Orders should be sent to Lindsey Bartholomew. Her email is [email protected]. You can bring a check or cash to Lindsey or contact her for Venmo information. |
